Berlin (dpa) - Clank rimity remains a big problem in Berlin. This is shown by the current clank rimity 2022, which was published by the Berlin Interior Administration. Last year there were a total of 872 crimes committed by large families. Compared to the previous year, the number rose by 23 cases.
A 22-year-old clan member is particularly the focus of the investigation. Against him, a whopping 43 criminal proceedings for allegations such as money laundering, fraud, robbery, theft and threat were initiated.
The list of crimes is long and multifaceted. In the first place are located with 125 cases, followed by criminal offenses in traffic with 122 cases and rawness offenses with 120 cases. Other crimes are drug violations (86), theft/embezzlement (65), threats also with weapons (56), robbery (43) and money laundering (42). There were also three homicides. In addition, 89 administrative offenses such as driving too fast or violations of the weapons law were registered.
According to the position, not all members of the clans are criminal. Rather, they are those with delinquent behavior that provide their own norms and values of the legal system applicable in Germany. A total of 303 suspects were determined in 2021. A total of 582 people are assigned to the milieu of clank rimity.
The statistics also show the different nationality of the suspects. 47.7 percent are German citizens. About a quarter is led as Lebanese (14.95 percent) or German-Libanese (8.9 percent). In 18.7 percent, citizenship is unclear. The investigators also assign Turkish (4.8 percent) or German-Turkish nationals (1.7 percent), Syrian (2.1 percent) and some Swedes of clank rimity.
The crimes of the clans make up about 0.2 percent of the total crime in Berlin. Nevertheless, the authorities have been increasingly acting against these groups for years. One trigger for this was the spectacular robbery of a 100 kilogram gold coin from the Bode Museum in 2017, in which members of an Arab-born large family were involved.
An important point in the fight against clank rimity is the exhaustion of assets that presumably come from crimes. This is harder than prison terms. In 2022, 160 police controls were carried out in Berlin, in which 606 objects were checked and 36 of them were closed. Evidence such as alleged drug money, untrained cigarettes, narcotics, cars, slot machines and weapons were confiscated.
However, the authorities reach the limits when it comes to creating assets. Berlin's Senator Iris Spranger therefore calls for a reversal of the burden of proof. Suspects without income and assets should have to prove where they get the money from buying an expensive property or a luxury car. The Federal Ministry of the Interior wants to check this proposal.
Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser supports plans for easier deportation for criminal clan members. For the fight against organized crime, it is important to act against clank rimity and to strengthen the rule of law, according to the SPD politician.
Clank rimity remains a big challenge in Berlin. The authorities rely on increased investigations, ability to do wealth and deportation of criminal clan members to act against this form of organized crime.
