Judgment against net: misleading advertising for 'climate neutrality' stopped
A huge victory for the environmentalist! The German Environmental Aid (DUH) has managed to set another milestone in the fight against the misleading advertising for "climate -neutral" products. Germany's third largest discount, net brand-discount, now has to admit that their previous advertising promises for the popular finished coffee cafèt latte cappuccino are unsustainable. After a resounding judgment of the Amberg Regional Court, Netto has withdrawn his appointment and made it clear that the times of consumer deception are over!
The decision of the court makes it clear that advertising with the promising term "climate neutrality" should not simply be used carelessly. In this special case, the supposed climate neutrality was based only on the purchase of emission credits that come from short -lived forest projects. The Amberg district court has therefore made it clear that strict rules apply here!
a strong sign for more transparency
Jürgen Resch, the federal manager of the DUH, summarizes the importance of this judgment in its own words: “Our success against the third largest cheap discounter in Germany is a clear signal to the trade in finally ending consumer deception with supposedly climate -neutral products." "Climate -neutral" advertising must be transparent and comprehensible. Even the Federal Court of Justice recently found that such advertising promises urgently need to be explained in more detail.
From now on, companies have to adhere to these rules and take real measures to reduce their emissions instead of relying on inadequate compensations. The DUH also calls for a general ban on climate neutral promise if they are based on compensations.
The message is clear: The Federal Government must finally take the new EU directive seriously to “strengthen consumers for ecological change” and ensure that the market is no longer dirty for green products by dubious promises.
