Since the beginning of Corona pandemic, more than 14,000 fraud procedures in connection with test centers or corona aid payments have been initiated in Berlin. The Corona investigation group at the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) has so far processed over 10,000 cases and handed over to the public prosecutor. In many cases, arrest warrants were obtained and fraudulent millions of millions received.

The investigation group still receives about 50 new cases per month that lead to the initiation of criminal charges. The police assume that the relevant investigations will continue for several years.

Berlin is considered a hotspot nationwide for such fraud procedures. At the beginning of the pandemic, entrepreneurs and solo self-employed in the capital were able to apply quickly and easily. According to the LKA, this made it easy to get to these grants.

The public prosecutor's office in Berlin has so far registered more than 5,300 fraud procedures in connection with Corona. Hundreds of criminal orders were requested from the Tiergarten district court. As a rule, the perpetrators are to be fined, but in some cases, however, prison terms are also discussed on probation. In addition, charges were charged in about 120 cases.

It is not yet known how many of the fraud cases have already been legally completed. The police and the public prosecutor register cases with Corona reference so that the figures of the authorities can deviate from each other.
