Renaturation of the barbecue area in the Johannisthal landscape park: grilling is now prohibited

At the last meeting of the district council of Treptow-Köpenick, it was decided to renaturalize the barbecue area in the Johannisthal landscape park. The district office plans to implement the necessary measures to protect the sensitive nature of the area. Due to the increasing improper use of the barbecue area and the associated damage, including littering, illegal access with vehicles and animals as well as the unauthorized expansion of the grill area, grilling is no longer permitted.

The Johannisthal landscape park, a former airfield, is designated as a protected area, whereby the core area is considered a nature reserve. The increasing number of visitors and the sealing of surrounding areas lead to increased pressure on the protected area. In order to obtain biodiversity and the natural balance, the renaturation of the barbecue area is necessary.

The district councilor Dr. Claudia Leistner emphasized the importance of protecting nature in the landscape protection area and announced that it was looking for an alternative location for a barbecue area in the district.

In recent years, the barbecue area had to be closed regularly due to drought and fire. The decision to renaturate the barbecue area in the Johannisthal landscape park is intended to help secure the livelihoods for protected animal and plant species in the long term.
