Animal Welfare Act in the Bundestag: urgent need for action for animals

In Germany it is bubbling! The debate about animal welfare heats up, because the BUND for the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany (BUND) is committed to a comprehensive amendment to the Animal Welfare Act. A hot iron that is now going to make a decision in the Bundestag!

The traffic light coalition is behind the demands: A amendment to the Animal Welfare Act was laid down in the coalition agreement, but time is urged! The government officials have already submitted a draft law in May that is now entering the decisive phase of legislation. The federal government has a claim paper to Anke Hennig (SPD) and Dr. Handed over Zoe Mayer (Greens) - a brave step to defend the rights of our animals!

What exactly is it about?

The federal government calls for a fundamental ban on connections! Yes, you heard right! Drastic measures must be taken against the barbaric conditions in the stables. BUND chairman Olaf Bandt says it clearly: "People don't want meat with animal agents!"

A central point of the draft law is the strict restrictions when cutting down body parts in animals, such as separating horns in cows and the cropping of pork tail. Finally, according to the federal government, we have to put an end to the cruelty of factory farming that makes animals suffer and causes fear.

The dark side of the design

A reason to worry remains: Many serious guidelines are still inadequate! The problems of agony - breeding animals despite physical suffering - is still not stringent enough. The draft law lists some characteristics such as shortness of breath or malformations, but is mainly based on pets and not on agriculture.

The connection? A permanent exception should continue to apply. In Germany, many cattle stand in stables for months or even for years- that can and must not be! Bandt appeals to the grievance: "A complete abolition of the tethering must be done within 10 years!"

Time is pushing and finding further advice during the draft law, all animal lovers hope for positive changes. Does the agricultural industry still have this saying or is this finally about the well -being of the animals? The federal government has beaten the alarm bells, and now it is on the Bundestag to take the right step!
