Tempelhofer Feld: Six new concepts in the ideas competition selected!

Tempelhofer Feld, Berlin, Deutschland - The Senate of Berlin recently selected six concepts from an ideas competition for redesigning the Tempelhofer Feld. These concepts, which differ greatly in their design, range from a largely untouched park landscape to suggestions for marginal development with living space and trade. There are also numerous ideas for public gardens, art and cultural institutions as well as sports and playgrounds. The special challenge is to reconcile these measures with the protection of the Tempelhofer Feld, which in 2014 was placed under the "law to preserve the Tempelhofer Feld" in 2014 and can therefore only be changed carefully. According to RBB24, the competition is part of a comprehensive dialogue process that actively incorporates the Berlin population.

The ideas competition was initiated by the Senate Department for Urban Development last year and reached an important step with the selection of the six concepts, which are now to be discussed in further dialogue events from mid -July. This represents the third and last phase of the participation process, which is an important forum for the opinion of the population. Previously, around 275 randomly selected Berliners had participated in dialogue events and expressed their views that fundamentally incorporated into the decision -making process. An exhibition of the award -winning concepts is planned for September 2025.

The background of the competition

The Tempelhofer Feld is an important inner -city open space in Berlin, which has been used by the population for relaxation and leisure since the Tempelhof airport was closed in 2008. According to berlin.de) It will be about maintaining the existing land use and at the same time finding new solutions in view of the shortage of housing that has become urgent in Berlin since the 2014 referendum. The government coalition from the CDU and SPD is considering how a further development of the field can be realized, whereby most of the area should continue to serve to relax and culture.

The aim of the competition is to develop innovative design concepts that take into account both urban planning and social requirements. Interdisciplinary planning teams from urban planning, architecture and landscape architecture from all over Europe are invited to participate in this process. Creative designs are to be presented, of which up to 20 are included in the next phase of the competition. In this phase, the selected teams can further deepen their ideas before the best five designs are ultimately selected in June 2025. This is to ensure that the citizens can vote and influence the future of Tempelhofer Feld. Thf-dialog leads the process and ensures that the dialog workshops mentioned actively flow into the designs.

Christian Gaebler, Senator for Urban Development (SPD), emphasizes that the competition should offer space for brave and surprising ideas. In the dialogue workshops, however, a majority had spoken out against a marginal development, which caused the Senate to allow untouched, natural designs. This feedback and the concerns of the critics, who accuse the black and red coalition of wanting to handle the referendum to non-development of the Tempelhofer field, play a central role in the further course of this process.
