It was Maria Leo (October 18, 1873 to September 2, 1942), who for the first time helped women in the Weimar Republic to train as a private music teacher. The course developed around 1904 made an important, reform -pedagogical contribution to music teacher training in general. The music education system created by the music politician, music educator and pianist Leo Kestenberg in the Weimar Republic and continues to this day.

According to a report by www.berlin.de, a three -part festival program takes place in Berlin to honor Maria Leo and her music education work. The event begins at 7:00 p.m. in Pallassstraße 12, 10781 Berlin, the former place of residence and work of Maria Leo. Her tragic death also took place there when she fled to suicide on September 2, 1942, shortly before she was deported to Theresienstadt.

At 8:00 p.m. the second part of the event takes place in the concert hall of the Leo Kestenberg Music School. Greetings from representatives: inside the district and guests are kept. Cordula Heiland and students of the music school play works by Jewish composers such as Ursula Mamlok, Fanny Hensel and Amy Beach. A short lecture by Dr. Anna Christine Rhode-Jing, musicologist and author of the first Maria Leo biography, is the focus of this part.

The third part of the event begins at 9:00 p.m. in front of the king's thirst for the concert hall. There the chamber orchestra of the Leo Kestenberg Music School works works by the contemporary of Maria Leo, Josef Suk, while a plaque is unveiled for Maria Leo.

This event offers the Berlin citizens: inside the opportunity to appreciate the important role of Maria Leo in the music education of the Weimar Republic and to reflect on the local history and commemorative culture.
