District City Councilor is pleased to release the underpass at the Lichtenrade train station
The district councilor Dr. Ellenbeck is pleased about the upcoming traffic release of the new underpass at Lichtenrade train station, which will be significant relief for the residents. The construction work was challenging due to the difficult structural conditions, but were successfully completed. With the opening of the underpass, the Wolziger line for vehicle traffic is permanently closed, while a new underpass is planned for foot and bicycle traffic and is expected to be completed in the 1st half of 2025. Until then, the crossing for foot and bike traffic is not possible. Deutsche Bahn publishes more information about this project on its website.
The closure of the Wolziger line and the opening of the new underpass will probably have a positive impact on the flow of traffic in the area. The relief for residents and the improved safety in road traffic are particularly welcome. The successful completion of this project is also a sign of engineering performance in construction.
Historically, underpasses and transfer are important elements in road and rail transport in order to make the flow of traffic efficiently and to ensure the safety of passers-by. They are an important infrastructure measure in many cities and municipalities to meet the increasing transport requirements. In the following table, some information about past underpass projects in the region is listed in order to enable a comparison with the current project at the Lichtenrade train station.
