Telekom continues mobile phone expansion in Gera - good news for the city

Telekom continues to continue the expansion of the mobile network in the city of Gera. The company has expanded a new location with 5G technology, which leads to an improved mobile phone coverage and a higher range. In addition to improved connectivity in buildings, the location should also serve to ensure reliable care along the Thuringia-Ost railway lines.

"The need for fast internet increases steadily by around 30 percent per year. Therefore, we consistently continue mobile phone expansion," says Georg von Wagner, company spokesman for Deutsche Telekom.

outlook and status

With the new location, Telekom now operates a total of 40 locations in Gera. The network coverage for households is almost 100 percent. Six other locations are planned by 2026. In addition, extensions with LTE or 5G are planned at 26 radio masts.

In order to implement these projects, Telekom is dependent on cooperation with the municipalities and owners in order to rent suitable locations. The German radio tower is responsible for the construction of the Telekom mobile phone locations. Telekom currently operates more than 36,000 mobile phone locations and is building around 1,500 new locations annually.
