Dispute over driver parking spaces: District Mitte first relies on parking ticket machines and then on wheel lane - high costs for the taxpayer
Transport policy hook strike: Drivers on Müllerstrasse in Wedding had to pay for parking when cycling strips were introduced shortly afterwards. The green city councilor Almut Neumann had parking ticket machines installed less than a year ago. According to the Mitte district, the last machines were set up on August 15, 2022. In total there were an estimated around 30 pieces, for which the district spent 150,000 euros.
The costs for the purchase and setting up of a machine are 5000 euros, according to the district. The machines were dismantled after the decision was made to make Müllerstrasse single -lane and to create space for a bike track on the road. The construction work began on April 17, 2023 and were inaugurated in mid -June.
Now the machines and parking zone signs are history. The expenses for you were therefore unnecessarily made. However, the authority defends its decision and explains that the machines that are no longer required are reused in other places. According to an authority spokesman, no machine was "inoperative".
The reason for the planning disaster is as follows: It was not possible to forego the parking ticket machines during the transition period of almost a year in Müllerstrasse. Otherwise there would have been a rush and considerable parking search in the few free parking spaces. The implementation costs per machine amounted to 800 euros.
