U3 extension: Faster connections for Berlin commuters!

The Berlin Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) are working on the exciting extension of the U3 subway line. This expansion extends between the Krumme Lanke and Mexicoplatz stations and will close a significant gap in the Berlin subway network. The improvement of the connection to the region will not only benefit commuters from Potsdam and Wannsee, but also optimize the entire flow of traffic in the area.

With the new underground route of 800 meters, it is possible that up to 12,000 passengers benefit from shorter travel times and reduced transfer processes every day. In particular, the connection to the Mexicoplatz and the S-Bahn improves accessibility for many. This is a big step towards promoting public transport, since the use increases and road traffic is reduced.

quick advantages for passengers

Patrick Steinhoff, the district councilor for urban development, comments on the expansion: "The extension of the U3 will not only strengthen local transport, but also shorten the paths in the district! Commuters have to change less, and that brings everyone a real advantage." The new connections are of great importance for both residents and visitors and show progress in urban infrastructure.

The construction takes place in two decisive steps. First, the subway line is extended underground, with parts of the tunnel already available. This enables faster and cheaper implementation, since the route runs directly under the existing road. In a further step, the Mexicoplatz station is redesigned to guarantee seamless transfer connections to the S-Bahn and meet the operational requirements.
