Franek shows in intoxicating pictures: The endangered birds of our world!

Between October 2024 and March 2025, a remarkable exhibition under the title "Franek - The Spirits of Vanishing Animals. The Red List" will be seen in the Steglitz estate. The artist Franek, born in 1939, has dealt with the subject of threatened and already extinct animal species for decades. Her works include paintings, drawings and over -painted etchings that merge into an impressive total work of art.

The exhibition presents a number of works that deal with birds of the Red List, proof of the endangerment of many species. In her unique painting style, the artist captures the beauty and special features of these animals. The focus is particularly on the characteristics such as the striking plumage of the gray woodpecker or the long beak of the fallow bird.

The connection between humans, animals and plants

Franek is also inspired by indigenous cultures and their myths, which often explore the relationships between humans and nature. These encounters have shaped their artistic style. An interesting facet of her work is the interaction of birds and mixed creatures that she describes as an alraun. These creatures come from the European legendary world and are represented as magical and dreamy.

Her work discover the symbiosis between humans, animals and plant in a poetic way. This happens both in the presentation and in the conception of your works, which are often permeated by spiritual thoughts and magical views. Scientists like Bruno Latour and Lynn Margulis have dealt with similar topics in their work, which underlines the philosophical depth of Franek's art.

The exhibition is given a special note from the use of slate tablets that are reminiscent of gravestones. These boards are provided with fine drawings of the endangered birds and carry handwritten notes that document the risk status of these species. It is as if these works wanted to sensitize the viewers to the loss of biodiversity.

In the cycle that is dedicated to mammals, Franek uses existing etchings to treat questions of transience in their art. Ruins and the memories of a lost culture become central elements. The exhibition is supplemented by a selection of sculptures and thus offers a comprehensive insight into Franek.

This exhibition is of great importance for art lovers and environmentalists. It not only shows the artistic examination of nature conservation, but also reminds of the responsibility of mankind for the preservation of endangered species. The exhibition also includes a limited edition of the works that can be purchased for 35 euros, another incentive to deal with the work of Franek.
