The Berlin SPD politician Sawsan Chebli talked about anti-Semitism and her earlier hatred of Jews after an attack on an Israeli tourist who was presumably committed by Arabic-born men. She emphasized that the entire Arab and Muslim community had to support in combating anti -Semitism. Just like Arabs and Muslims expect the majority society to be strong for them if they are discriminated against and hostile, they must not be silent if Jews are threatened and attacked in Germany.
On Saturday evening, a 19-year-old Israeli tourist in Kreuzberg was attacked and beaten up by three men. The state protection of the criminal police is now examining an anti -Semitic motive and looking for the alleged perpcrapers who are possibly Arab origin.
The attacked reported that the men drove away with their car after the crime and, according to the Arab music, had heard and celebrated. He had just called in Hebrew when a car suddenly stopped and the three men got out.
Sawsan Chebli, who has Palestinian parents and used to be a state secretary in Berlin, stated that Jews are not safe in many parts of Germany. Hate comes from many directions. In particular, Israel-related anti-Semitism among Arabs and Muslims is a great threat, but the danger of right remains the greatest.
In an interview with the "Tagesspiegel",chebli told her own earlier attitude, in which they blamed Jews for the suffering of the Palestinians and the fate of their parents. She was outraged by the Jewish state and the situation of the Palestinians and also felt hatred. But then a process of rethinking used, including through encounters with Jews and Israelis in Israel. She got to know Israelis, who, out of great conviction, are committed to the freedom of the Palestinian and a Palestinian state, as well as Holocaust survivors. Today Israeli's close friends of her are. Out of anger and hatred, the desire to build bridges and bring young people together on both sides to overcome hatred.
Chebli also reported a conversation with an Arab boy in a concentration camp memorial that regretted that Hitler had not killed all Jews. She realized that this hatred of Jews had been instilled in his life and told him her story to promote empathy.
The politician also called for critical debates on the Palestine policy of Israel. The relationship between Germany and the state of Israel will always remain special due to the history of the Nazi, but should not lead to silence about human rights violations. She pointed out that fascists would sit in the government in Israel, who openly promote violence against Palestinians and drive forward land robbery. At the same time, however, it was the wrong way to ban demonstrations from Palestinians in Berlin just because anti -Semitic slogans are expected.
