Making music together: Inclusive project promotes talents in Spandau

Promotion of inclusion through music in Spandau

On August 1, 2024, a remarkable music project in Berlin-Spandau started, which is dedicated to promoting inclusion and community. Under the title "Groovt’s Groovt’s-Inclusive Music Making with Children", the Spandau music school combines its strength with the August Hermann Francke School and the Evangelical School Spandau. This initiative is supported as part of the nationwide program "Culture makes strong. Alliances for education", which focuses on strengthening education and cultural activities for children.

The project not only has the goal of conveying musical knowledge, but also creating an integrative environment in which children can come together with various backgrounds and skills. The two schools work together as "school without borders" in advance, which forms the basis for an as creative as well as including learning atmosphere.

The importance of this initiative extends beyond music. In a society that is increasingly shaped by diversity, the ability to promote empathy and understanding is becoming increasingly important. By making music together, children learn to communicate with each other and to respect each other, which can strengthen social bonds in the community in the long term.

The targeted effect of the project extends beyond the school boundaries: it not only promotes the musicality of the participating children, but also their social and emotional development. Inclusion and diversity are not only experienced as teaching issues, but also experienced as a lived reality. Differences between the children can be reduced by making music together, which leads to a more harmonious school community.

The example from Spandau illustrates how cultural projects can have a positive impact on education and social interaction. Such initiatives are crucial for awareness (consciousness) about the importance of inclusion in all areas of life. The “Groovt’s” project shows how the creative expression can build bridges in the form of music and at the same time contributes to enriching society as a whole.
