Solidarity agriculture in Frohnau and the surrounding area: young, fresh vegetables directly from the field

The Frohlawi association offers fresh vegetables directly from the field. Currently, chard, spring onions, fennel, salad and early potatoes are currently in season. What is special about this project is the alternative concept in which producers and consumers work together in solidarity. The name "Frohlawi" is derived from "Solawi", which stands for solidarity agriculture.

The consumers pay a fixed amount of around 100 euros per month and receive shares in the harvest. Natalie Kreisz, member of the Board of Directors of Frohlawi, explains that all members of the association have different professional backgrounds and that none of them have agricultural expertise. Nevertheless, they operate a vegetable cultivation on the stumbling block.

The idea for the project came up when some people noticed that corn and rapeseed were always injected on the stumbling block and that you could hardly go for a walk there. The question of whether you could do something differently meant that Professor Martin Kaupenjohann, an expert in landscape at the TU, dealt with the stumbling block. Together with his students, it was calculated how the field could be used more sustainably.

After one -year negotiations, Frohlawi was finally allowed to take over the field that belongs to the Berlin city goods. At first there was skepticism, but then the ecological agricultural project received support. The aim of the association is to be able to supply 400 households one day. Already now there is a harvest surplus that is donated. For example, 500 salads went to the Oranienburger Tafel.

Frohlawi also works with other partners, including the diversity interest group for the Stumbling Feld and the Evangelical School Frohnau. The latter gave the club a herbal spiral. The joint work of everyone involved was celebrated with a donation handover in the stumbling block.

If you are interested, you can participate in Frohlawi, even without buying a crop. Information can be found on the association's website. The Solawi campaigns against the industrial cultivation on the stumbling block and would like to leave half of the area of nature to increase biodiversity. However, there are guidelines that state that the area must not be lying permanently. Most of the crop shares for this year have already been awarded, but the association hopes to be able to continue growing in the future and to continue to be able to lease the fields.
