A scandal about misappropriated lease in Berlin allotments has far -reaching consequences for the innocent allotment gardeners. The management of the lease runs through the respective district associations of garden fans, while the regional association Berlin of the garden friends acts as a representative of interests. However, the resigned chair of the district association of garden friends Pankow, Viola Kleinau, did not transfer the leases to the owners and misappropriated a high six -figure sum. After the allegations have become loud, it has destroyed evidence. However, a folder appeared that contains monthly transfers to their family of 54,000 euros.
This scandal affects around 5,000 allotment gardeners in Pankow, including the members of the allotment garden facility Alte Bachschule, which is one of the oldest and largest in Berlin. Due to the events, the property owners have given notice of termination. The Pankow district has no right of intervention because large parts of the system are on private property. However, the district association Pankow has a lease contract with the property owner, which was terminated due to outstanding lease payments.
The hope of the allotment gardeners now lies in the list of a development plan (B-Plan), which would protect the system as an allotment garden. This would be excluded from a profit marketing of the area. A corresponding decision could cause the property owner to conclude a new contract with the allotment gardeners. However, creating a B-plan is a challenge because the administration is already busy. Help was promised by the environmental senator, but it will only be announced in autumn this year which solution the Senate prefers.
Overall, the scandal about misappropriated lease in Berlin allotments is a heavy setback for the innocent allotment gardeners who now have to worry about their gardens. However, there is hope by setting up a B plan that could protect the system as an allotment garden. The further development remains to be seen.
