Shakespeare in the Allotment: A Midsummer Night's Dream Comes to Life!
On November 4th, 2025, the theater group “ex tempore” of the Mitten-Drin leben e.V. association will perform a humorous reinterpretation of William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. Director Oleg Myrzak created a contemporary version in which the characters are members of a theater group from an allotment garden association. At the dress rehearsal in the Theater am Park in Biesdorf, the amateur actors worked with commitment under the direction of the director and received valuable corrections that strengthened both the performances and the dynamics of the group Daily Mirror reported.
Gisela Marquardt, a fellow player, describes acting as the realization of a childhood dream. Claudia Hüttel and Christin Breuer also share their enthusiasm, emphasizing the positive team dynamics and the fun of the weekly rehearsals. This proximity to amateur theater is already evident in the group's previous productions, which include “The Craftsmen's Scenes” and “The Storytime for Adults”.
Performance and details
The performance “A Midsummer Night’s Dream – Craftsmen’s Scenes” will take place on November 7th at 6 p.m. and November 9th at 3 p.m. in the Theater am Park. Tickets are available at the box office for 10 euros. The group is still looking for players for the subsequent new production of the comedy “Pension Schöller”. The project is carried out entirely on a voluntary basis, without fees or compensation, which further strengthens the community spirit.
The collaboration between the theater group “ex tempore” and the Theater am Park e.V. also brings a breath of fresh air to Shakespeare’s time-honored texts. The protagonists are members of the allotment garden association “Aufbruch e.V.”, who are confronted with unexpected twists and challenges during the performance. Myrzak emphasizes the importance of the participation of neighbors and the joint development of scenes as a team.
