Pensioners can bear foster costs themselves: IW study reports success

Berlin, the city of contradictions! While the nursing costs are deployed, a new study by the Institute of German Economy (IW Cologne) shows that over 70 percent of pensioner households in Germany are nevertheless equipped for inpatient care for several years. Incredible, but true! This means that, despite the high finances, many seniors can handle their own shares for nursing homes - and that over a whole five years!

"The old ones can do that!", Emphasizes Thomas Brahm, the chairman of the PKV association. He does not believe in the many dark warnings that are expressed in the political debate. "Instead of fueling panic, politics should use this fact to make our long -term care insurance strongly and fairly!", Brahm demands emphasis. Instead of demanding permanent subsidies and a 'fully maintenance insurance', the contributors ultimately burden the contributors enormously, he calls for a rethink.

urgent change required

The IW study shows that less than 30 percent would actually arrive from all the grants from which the political arena is screamed. It has already become clear last year how the general performance surcharges were ineffective. These measures cost long -term care insurance for 3.6 billion euros, while the expenditure of social welfare offices decreased by just 1.23 billion euros. A questionable balance that shows: One euro relief for the needy came with a three euro burden for the contributors!

The IW experts at the IW Cologne summarize it: the performance surcharges are neither effective nor efficient. The warnings of the consequences of the increasing contributions are unmistakable. Higher contributions could drive labor costs up in Germany and put the companies under pressure. A dangerous game that could endanger the jobs on site!

a call to responsible

Thomas Brahm remains optimistic: "We now have to act in order to create stable and sustainable care for all generations." However, reality says something else: Instead of sensible solutions, the current politics leads to a downward spiral in nursing financing, which affects not only the current people in need of care, but also the coming generations.

The clock ticks! It is high time that politics sets the course for a functioning and fair long -term care insurance before it is too late!
