Romain-Rolland-Gymnasium delights students with Tag of Technology and MINT class

District City Councilor Schrod-Thiel (CDU) visits "Day of Technology"

On July 16, 2024, district councilor Julia Schrod-Thiel visited the "Day of Technology" at the Romain Rolland-Gymnasium in the Cité Foch in representation for school councilor Harald Muschner. This day enabled around 1,000 pupils to dive into the fascinating world of electrical and information technology.

The Roro-Gymnasium has put together a diverse program in cooperation with the Association of Electrical Engineering Elektrotechnik Information Technology (VDE), which particularly emphasizes the MINT subjects (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology). In addition to experimenting, the day also offered informative lectures and presentations on topics such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI).

Under the motto "Fascination Technology", various Berlin universities, the Weddinger Lehrwache of the Berlin Fire Brigade, the Berlin transport companies and other companies from the capital, also presented themselves to bring the pupils closer to possible courses and apprenticeships in the technical field.

A highlight was the Hacker School, in which the students were able to test their own programming knowledge. With the support of the online platform MakeCode, the popular game Flappy Bird was created according to instructions.

The Romain Rolland Gymnasium is one of the MINT Excellence centers, which include around 150 high schools in Germany. In the future, the school will focus even more on the topic MINT by introducing a MINT class in the coming school year. This class aims to inspire pupils for natural sciences and technology by bringing the subjects of biology, chemistry and physics into an integrated subject "Nawi".
