Price increase in public transport: Challenges for mobility in Hamburg
an outcry in the mobility world! The railway and transport union (EVG) raises the alarm: "This price increase reduces the attractiveness of public transport!" This is a message that echoes through the ranks of the passengers and increases the concerns about the future of public transport. Will the Germany ticket become a victim of the price increases?
We live in a time when mobility is more than ever in demand - and that at affordable prices! But maybe that is exactly in danger now. With the new planned increases, children, pupils: inside, student: inside, trainees and senior: inside, fear for their mobility. "Mobility must be affordable," says Martin Burkert, the chairman of the EVG, and thus plays the ball back to the federal states. Some are already making a good example: For example, Hamburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have found promising solutions!
urgent need for action required
Reality is clear: an inexpensive local public transport is not only a cheap ticket, but also a crucial component to promote the mobility transition. "We need more than just words; we need deeds!" With additional federal and state funds, local transport must be expanded urgently, because without sufficient offers and capacities it will be difficult to bring people to the rails.
"We need more employees and more vehicles to master the challenges of the popularity of public transport," Burkert makes clear. If you look into the faces of the commuters, you can see the concern and uncertainty. Where is the perspective for the future of mobility?
Anne Jacobs, press spokeswoman for the EVG, is in close contact with Burkert and takes a critical look at the current situation. It remains to be seen how the federal government reacts to this call. Together we have to make sure that public transport does not remain in the price increase trap!
