School examinations Pankow: state of health and regional differences

The report on the school examinations of 2019 and 2022, published by the Pankow Health Department, shows that the majority of the children examined in Pankow has a healthy state of development and shows a satisfactory health risk behavior. The comparatively high social structure in Pankow is seen as a significant factor for these results. However, there are clear differences in social status within the district in some health results.

District governments with high proportions in families of the low social status group such as Buch, Weißensee Ost and Prenzlauer Berg Ost show worse results in the areas of development, health and pension compared to other district regions. In contrast, regions such as Prenzlauer Berg Nordwest, Prenzlauer Berg Südwest, Helmholtzplatz and Prenzlauer Berg Süd do well, but the low vaccination rate there represents the greatest health challenge.

Although no serious effects of Corona were found on the results, the different language stand in 2022 in Pankow is striking compared to previous years. Particular attention should also be paid to the proportion of overweight children, who has increased by 31 percent in recent years. Future measures should concentrate on the health promotion of children in difficult living situations, the expansion of health -promoting measures in disadvantaged regions and the promotion of an educational strategy on the topic of vaccination in southern Pankow.

It is important to continuously observe the results and take targeted measures in order to promote positive development and to minimize health risks. The report is available on the website of the Pankower Health Office.
