NOFV urges reform: Who creates the promotion to the 3rd league?
Berlin, Deutschland - A reform of the promotion to the 3rd division is still under discussion after the Northeast German Football Association (NOFV) has requested a working group at a conference with representatives from various regional associations. This initiative happened in cooperation with the "Advice Reform 2025" initiative and aims to revise the current rules for the third division promotion. In the current regulation, only two of the five regional league champions rise directly, while in the Ligen North, Northeast and Bavaria, a rotation system with a permanent climber and a relegation duel is used, which leads to displeasure. This year, for example, the 1st FC Lokomotive Leipzig, champion of the season northeast, failed in the playoffs at TSV Havelse after extra time.
The proposals developed at the conference stipulate that the new working group should consist of three club representatives each of the five regional league relays and representatives of DFB and DFL. This group would then have the task of treating the problem quickly. So far, however, there has been no approval from other regional associations, even if readiness for discussion was signaled. The set of rules currently stipulates that only the masters of the west and southwest seasons have fixed promotion places, which makes the demand for a reform all the more pressing. According to the NOFV President Hermann Winkler, an increase in the 3rd league could be a solution that affects not only the northeast clubs, but also other areas of football.
challenges of the reform
The discussion about the promotion reform is complex and runs through the entire German football landscape. While the Bavarian Football Association (BFV) and the Regionalliga Südwest GmbH show conversation, the DFB does not see itself in the intermediary role. As a result, the North German Football Association (NFV) currently does not see any need for action for discussion about promotion places, while there is the interest of the other regional associations.
The initiative "Cancellation Reform 2025" received 33 clubs from the first five leagues, including 21 from the northeast. This support includes well -known clubs such as 1. FC Union Berlin, Dynamo Dresden and Hansa Rostock. In this context, Tommy Haeder, spokesman for the initiative, appeals to the other regional associations to join the proposal and find a mutual solution. However, the consent from the north and west has so far remained.
more supporters, but also resistance
Especially clubs from the west and southwest show interest in the reform. Clubs such as VfB Lübeck and Rot-Weiß Oberhausen support the initiative, while some associations, such as the North German Football Association, do not see the need for action. The problem of increasing travel costs and the diverse solutions also remain open and are dealt with in regional discussions.
Overall, it remains to be seen how the talks between the regional associations continue and whether a consensus can be found in the reform of the third division promotion. The coming weeks and months are crucial to find a viable path for the future of football in Germany.
