New wind for the ZLB: Jonas Fansa succeeds Volker Heller!

The Central and State Library Berlin (ZLB) is about to change Leadership! The current general director Volker Heller will leave the ZLB in the summer of 2025, as berlin.de . At the meeting of the Foundation Council on December 10, 2024, Jonas Fansa was named as successor to take office on June 1, 2025. He is already operational director and knows the ZLB very well. "The ZLB is a great library that has been close to my heart for many years," Fansa was pleased with his new responsibility.

challenges and future visions

fansa emphasizes that the ZLB must perform its services despite the upcoming financial challenges. The aim of creating a common central location remains particularly important. Senator Joe Chialo, chairman of the board of trustees, said that Fansa was a largely recognized expert in the world of public libraries and would represent an indispensable pillar for the ZLB. Heller, who has managed the library for over a decade, is recognized for his dedicated commitment, especially with regard to the move of the ZLB to Friedrichstrasse, a project that is of great importance.

The ZLB, as the largest public library in Germany, gives citizens free access to knowledge and culture. Their tasks also include collecting all printing plants and sound carriers that appear in Berlin. This institution represents an important place of encounter and exchange, as the ZLB itself illustrates. In what way this role is being developed under the new management remains to be seen.
