New tram line from Johannisthal to Gropiusstadt - more mobility for Berlin districts

The tram soon turns over to the west from the south-east of the capital. The Berlin Senate decided on Tuesday the top variant of a new tram line, which leads from the current stop Haeckelstraße in Johannisthal to the Johannisthaler Chaussee underground station in Gropiusstadt. The route is 6.2 kilometers long, has 11 stops and is expected to cost at least 119 million euros. Among other things, it opens up the large settlement Gropiusstadt, offers a change option for the U7 and various bus lines and leads to the Gropius Passages shopping center.
According to a report by www.bz-berlin.de Lead and touch the Gropiusstadt only marginally. In addition, this would make a later planning of the route towards Buckow /Marienfelde.
The BVG is expected to receive six million euros for the precise planning of the tram line. Commissioning is expected optimistically for 2029. In 1958 there were already nine tram lines in Neukölln before they died out for over half a century.
