New reading oases in Berlin: Educational opportunities for disadvantaged children

The future of children at stake! Reading opens doors, but what to do if a quarter of all fourth graders in Germany have difficulties with it? The alarming results of the international primary school reading examination (IGLU) make it clear: educational justice is urgently needed! Save the Children goes to the front with Postbank and extends the successful cooperation for the project "Reading oases - reading promotion in all day"!

The recipe for success? So far, over 18,000 children in more than 100 reading oases have benefited from this great offer. And best of all: By 2027, 50 new reading and well-being places are to be opened! The focus is on socially disadvantaged areas with special challenges - here education becomes the key to a better future!

a room for dreams and adventure

The reading oases are not just about reading: children design cozy learning rooms, equipped with a careful selection of books and media. With the reading promotion program "To the stories, read out" by Save the Children, reading becomes an exciting journey of discovery. The children share their experiences in a playful and creative manner, and the results are impressive: According to an evaluation of the Institute for Social Research, practical advice and organizational development (ISPO), 94 percent of the children rated the reading promotion program as very good or good! And almost 70 percent report: "Now I find it easier for me!"

Tania Roach, from Save the Children Germany, sums it up: "Germany invests too little in education. But the reading oases show that we can fight together against the inequality of educational opportunities!" Cooperation with Postbank is a real game-changer that opens up access to the magical worlds of the books for many children.

an appeal for educational justice

The commitment draws circles! Alexander Gallas from Deutsche Bank, which also includes Postbank, confirms: "We are seriously committed to more educational justice!" Education is freed, education is a fundamental right! The reader rooms are not just learning places, they are oases of the community that give children self -confidence. Whether jungle or tree house atmosphere- for many children, these rooms are like a second home where their imagination can bloom.

The story of Save the Children is one of hope and change. Founded in 1919 by the angel Eglantyne Jebb to help hungry children, this organization still fights for children in need worldwide. It is tirelessly committed to the fact that all children - regardless of their background - have the chance of a healthy, safe and self -determined life. Become part of this success story!

Berlin remains on the pulse of the time and shows how important education is for the next generation. With passion and commitment, the challenges are concerned - for the children, for a better future!
