New support for families: challenge or opportunity for old buildings?

The challenges of the KfW funding program "Jung buys old" for families with small income

In a current statement, the building owner protection association (BSB) has expressed its concerns about the new KfW funding program "Jung buys old". This program aims to support families with lower income who want to acquire and modernize old buildings in need of renovation. Despite its positive intentions, the BSB indicates serious problems that could make the program considerably more difficult in practice.

One of the central challenges lies in the strict funding criteria. The requirements for the energy class are high, and it is expected that families of existing buildings of the worst energy classes (F, G or H) are renovated within a period of only 4.5 years on an energy efficiency standard of 70 EE. These requirements could be an insurmountable hurdle for many affected families.

"The financial burden caused by the high requirements could bring many people into a precarious situation," said Erik Stange, press spokesman for the BSB. The majority of the necessary renovation work must be carried out at once without enough time for adequate financial planning. Ultimately, this pressure could lead to the families in payment, especially if they cannot meet the strict requirements. »

The BSB therefore calls for a more pragmatic approach and more flexible deadlines to make the program more effective. "It is crucial that old and inefficient buildings are not only improved energetically, but also preserved sustainably," emphasizes the BSB. Adaptation of the requirements could significantly increase the attractiveness of the funding program and enable more families to improve their living situation without getting into existential difficulties.

The discussion about the KfW funding program clearly shows how important it is to take into account for different income groups. The challenges in front of which many families are facing a home and at the same time remain energetically up to date are real. It remains to be seen whether and how the political decision -makers will react to these concerns in order to meet the needs of the community.
