The district councilor for order, environment, nature, streets and green spaces, Christopher Schriner, invites everyone interested to a four -hour tour of Babelsberg. The district councilor for order, environment, nature, streets and green areas, Christopher Schriner, invites all interested parties to a four -hour tour of Babelsberg. The tour is headed by graduate biologist Gunter Martin from the Mitte environmental shop and leads to the most important stations such as the promenade on the Griebnitzsee, the park and Babelsberg Castle and the old town. The focus is on linking natural and cultural-historical knowledge, whereby both the flora and fauna and the history of origin are illuminated by Babelsberg.
A central aspect of the excursion is the Bohemian weaving colony of Nowawes, which Frederick the Great founded between 1751 and 1754. This colony served the production of the finest sewing silk and impresses as an example Hohenzollern's tolerance policy. After the area was listed in 1991, there are still some replanting of the original 4500 mulberry trees.
In Babelsberger Park, the effects of climate changes are also visible, since some historical trees have suffered from the drought of the past few years. It is currently being checked to use warmer -resistant types for replacement plantings. Interested parties can take part in this free excursion, which starts on June 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the S-Bahn station in Griebnitzsee and ends at the Babelsberg S-Bahn station.
In order to obtain further information, interested parties can contact the environmental and nature conservation office in Mitte or contact the press office of the Mitte district. The excursion is not barrier -free and requires a ticket for the tariff area C. It is recommended to register in advance and to wear sturdy shoes and weatherproof clothing.
