Parochialstraße 3, 10179 Berlin, Deutschland - On July 9, 2025, the district councilors Ephraim Gothe and Christopher Schriner announced that an exhibition on the new town hall of the future will be opened in Berlin-Mitte. In the “Rathaus of the Future” competition, a total of 20 designs were submitted, three of which were awarded and two more were recognized. Details on the planned town hall
The new town hall will be part of the future “House of Statistics”, which is not far from Alexanderplatz. With a total area of around 19,500 square meters, the building is intended to offer an open, accessible house for citizens, politics and administration. A foyer with citizens' offices, event rooms, a canteen, a 24/7 library and changing exhibitions are planned.
A central element of the town hall will be the parliamentary hall for the district council. The planned investment costs for the entire neighborhood amount to between 250 and 350 million euros. The new building is intended to expand the existing 46,000 square meters by an additional 66,000 square meters. The height includes a 15-storey and a 12-storey house as well as an office tower that is over 60 meters high in which the town hall will move in.
The completion of the new building is planned for 2029. The first components of the area have already been completed, and further construction phases will follow in the coming years. This project is considered a model for inner -city, mixed rooms and is implemented by the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Living, which also bears the responsibility for the implementation of the competition, as in the Information on Städtbaufförderung explained.
