Minus 10: A powerful exhibition on survival and memory in Berlin

A call from the artist! Gulia Groenke, a fascinating voice from the vastness of Russia, brings "minus 10" to Berlin with her exhibition ! From October 5 to December 29, 2024, the art scene in the historic Kant garages will become the scene of unique impressions, which blow up the limits of personal experience. An event that combines art and memory in a spectacular way!

Groenke takes visitors on an imaginary journey into their homeland in Norilsk, the only big city in the world that is so far north that it suffers from extreme climatic conditions. Here, where the sun does not open for months and the air is often crossed by poisonous smog, survival is a daily challenge. This city, built by forced laborers in a dark time, brings a shocking reality to light: Norilsk is one of the ten dirtiest cities in the world!

Norilsk: A place of extreme

Norilsk is more than just a geographical name - it is a synonym for the will to survive! Dress down into the stories of the people who live in this deplorable, but also fascinating city. Despite the adverse circumstances, every corner, every building and every story bears the sign of human perseverance. Groenke describes how the city's origins associated with forced labor not only shaped the landscape, but also the souls of its residents.

In this remarkable exhibition, Groenke combines profound personal questions - "Why am I here?" And "How do I get out here?" - with nostalgic and humorous memories from your childhood. Her works are an impressive mosaic of pressure, painting and photography, which reflects both melancholy and bright spots. "minus 10" is a journey through time and space permeated by emotions that illuminate universal topics of identity and resilience.

a festival for the senses

be ready to immerse yourself in a world in which colors and textures express the unspeakable! Groenke gives the viewers the opportunity to delve into the complex layers of their art. Whether visually or emotionally - every visitor is encouraged to find their own connection to the past and the present, and that with questions that extend beyond the borders of Norilsk.

The vernissage takes place on October 5, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. - an evening full of inspiration and creativity, which invites you to honest reflection. Art lovers and journalists are your chance to experience the captivating linking of personal history, political reality and artistic expression!
