McDonald's in Berlin: Duh forces fast food giants to comply with the reusable obligation
A huge victory for the environment! The German Environmental Aid (DUH) forced the fast food giant McDonald’s to its knees and forces the company to finally provide legally required reusable offers for delicious snacks and refreshing drinks. The latest? When visiting tests in the capital Berlin, the environmentalists met with blatant violations of this important regulation in 4 of 10 branches tested. So McDonald’s cannot steal from responsibility!
Despite the announcements about an alleged reusable system for drinks and ice cream, the big difference in reality occurred: The DUH test visitors regularly went away empty-handed, because in four branches there were no coveted reusable cups! A clear violation that cannot be accepted.
cease and desist declarations: McDonald’s must act!
To ensure that there are no further fraud, the DUH against McDonald’s Germany LLC and a Berlin franchisee has filed a lawsuit that has led to cease and desist declarations. This not only recognizes responsibility, but also excluded a future failure. A clear sign! The DUH cannot be easily stopped.
Barbara Metz, the federal manager of the DUH, is outraged by the situation: "It is a certificate of poverty that we have to force a fast food giant like McDonald’s to adhere to applicable right." The solutions are clear: in France, McDonald’s shows how a success story can become of a reusable, while everything stays with the old in this country and celebrate advertising campaigns for disposable cups.
the enormous flood of garbage and the urgent need for action
The shocking result: In Germany, gigantic 5.8 billion disposable cups and 4.5 billion one-way dessions boxes add up every year! Such immense quantities cause harmful effects on our environment and our climate. Thomas Fischer, the head of the DUH circular economy, rightly asks: "How can it be that more than one and a half years after the reusable obligation to enter the market leader, especially with the market leader McDonald’s, we find so many violations?" The DUH emphatically demands that the responsible authorities exercise more control and that high fines are imposed in the event of violations. So we can finally take the oppressive reusable obligation seriously!
In the hope of a greener future, DUH will continue to carry out test visits and tirelessly take action against the disadvantage of the regulations. The fight continues and the eyes are directed towards McDonald’s and Co.
