a festival with history
Martin's Day has deeply rooted traditions! The festival of St. Martin has been celebrated in Europe for over 1600 years. Martin, a modest man, born in 316/317 AD in what is now Hungary, is worshiped as a model for parts. Legend tells how he gave his coat to a freezing beggar on the cold winter night, which ultimately caused him to leave the army and live a life in Christian charity. His day of death, the 397, is celebrated as Martin's Day and is celebrated by sharing Martinshörnchen.
Share also goes beyond tradition! The proceeds from the Martins market are donated directly to a social project. This year the parish supports the "Arche" heat room from the Evangelical parish of Berlin-Treptow, which looks after homeless people. Together with the German -Polish aid organization, the festival becomes an important support for the needy!
