Hot Hellersdorf: Neighborhood climate protection project starts

The residents, residents and neighborhood management (QMS) in Hellersdorf have launched an innovative climate protection project called "Heißes Hellersdorf". This project aims to promote on -site climate protection and develop climate adaptation measures together. In cooperation with the L.I.S.T. GmbH and Nature Conservation Berlin-Malchow e.V. will be funded as part of the social cohesion program by the end of 2025 and extends over the QM areas Alte Hellersdorfer Straße, Hellersdorfer Promenade and Boulevard Kastanienallee.

A central component of the project is the low -threshold mediation of knowledge. The first workshop with the topic "Enjoy and climate protection - how does that go together?" took place on February 28, 2024 in the district office at Boulevard Kastanienallee. In the future, free workshops on topics related to climate protection and biodiversity will be planned every two months, to which all interested parties are cordially invited. In addition, “Heißes Hellersdorf” organizes weekly climate talks in which ideas and opinions are exchanged for climate protection with the residents.

Another exciting offer of the project is the climate laboratory Hellersdorf. From March 2024, interested residents can actively participate by equipping smart home weather stations in order to collect temperature data at different locations. The results are used for the development of local air conditioning measures. Registrations for the climate laboratory are possible at www.hellersdorf.qr1.at/labor.

The district councilor for urban development, Heike Wessoly, emphasizes the importance of the “Heißes Hellersdorf” project for climate protection at the local level. She sees the project as pioneering and emphasizes the cooperation with the residents, residents and stakeholders in order to bring about changes in terms of climate change together.
