Berlin, Deutschland - On July 15, 2025, 23,000 primary school students can look forward to: Before the summer vacation, you will receive a free homework book, which is designed for the coming school year 2025/26. This issue, known as the "carrot magazine", not only conveys the 17 sustainability goals of the UN, but also combines local sustainability aspects with global challenges. The children learn, among other things, the condition of the earth and the origin of chocolate. Ute Bonde, the Senator for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment, emphasizes how important the connection between sustainability and traffic safety is.

The initiative is part of the education for sustainable development (BNE), which is actively promoted in Germany. The motto "think globally, act locally" is integrated into the everyday life of children in order to raise awareness of ecological and social responsibility at an early stage. Oliver Schruoffeneger, environmental city councilor, emphasizes the playful way of transferring information through the issue. It contains not only local excursion tips, but also puzzles for sustainability.

The "Möhrchenheft" was introduced in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf in 2017 and has since supplemented with regional content. Since 2018 it has been coordinated in cooperation with the districts across Berlin. This educational measure is funded by the Senate Department for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment. The ESD plays a central role in the global educational landscape and is supported by programs such as the EBN 2030 roadmap of the UNESCO.
