Young people in focus: how politics can take their worries seriously
The young generation is faced with a tough reality: longer working hours, lower promotion opportunities and already noticeable effects of climate change! These problems are often played down, so it is not surprising that trust in the politics is like a small flame that can expire at any time.
The 19th Shell Youth study has black and white: Many young people do not believe that political decision-makers can solve their challenges. And that, my friends, is an alarm sign! Because if you don't take the reality of the youth seriously, you will be confronted with anger and frustration.
without perspective in the education system
Figger an example? The housing market is a real nightmare for new students. If you don't live in the cozy four walls of your parents, you have to search for a suitable home - and without a fixed income. Often there is only the choice between overpriced housing offers or nothing! The federal government recently screwed up the BAföG flat rate to a measly 380 euros. Incredible, but true: In 50 out of 68 university cities, that's not even enough for a simple room.
and the answer to all these worries? "Study somewhere else!" Yes, but the right to education must not depend on the wallet! In many industries, the training salaries are far too low to make ends meet. Our education system is a crumbling construct that releases the youth into a broken world - and it is expected that young people turn up the shards themselves.
political commitment of the youth
Surprisingly, it is not the younger ones who flocked to the AfD! This year, the 18- to 24-year-olds were mostly skeptical of the populist, right-wing extremists. Instead, the young people are primarily concerned with polarization in Germany, which is fueled by right -wing populists. They are receptive to solutions, yes, they are interested in politics and want to get involved!
But that only works if politics takes it seriously. It takes real opportunities and a policy that is designed for the interests of the young generation. As a result, the parties that move in the left spectrum of the AfD could reach small votes within this target group. The youth are flexible in their election behavior, and this is an opportunity that should not be ignored!
A future worth living is the key goal - and those responsible must finally recognize the signs of the time in order to regain the trust of the young voters. Are we ready for a change? Because ultimately the young people are the future and it is high time that their voices are heard!
