Salary increase for 60,000 employees: collective bargaining at public banks

In a strongly expected negotiating round on Thursday evening, October 10, 2024, the United Service Union ver.di and the Federal Association of Public Banks set new standards. A brilliant agreement was reached in Mainz, which ensures the employees of the public banks a salary increase of a whopping 11.5 percent! From November 1, 2024, it will really get down to business in three stages.

"Finally, employees feel the financial relief that they urgently need after years of high inflation," cheered Jan Duscheck, the negotiator of ver.di. In the first step, employees can look forward to an immediate increase of 6 percent! But that is only the beginning: further increases of 2.8 percent on November 1, 2025 and 2.7 percent on November 1, 2026 are already in the starting blocks. This turbo development will affect around 60,000 employees from 63 institutes from public banks, including the Landesbanken and Förderbanken.

junior staff benefit enormously

The young people who secure the future of public banks can look forward to an additional 350 euros per month! This is how the path is paved to a financially secure future.

But not only the salaries are on the agenda! The tariff partners have also decided to start talks to introduce a new fee structure and a modern, phase -phase -oriented working time design. "We are committed to more design options so that the employees can make their working hours more flexible," explains Duscheck with emphasis.

negotiations with power

The outcome of the negotiations impressively shows how important the union's voice is. At the beginning, ver.di demanded a salary increase of 12.5 percent or at least 500 euros per month. Thanks to persistent negotiations, a clear sign was set! The discussion about the further development of working time regulations is also rolling: Here it becomes visible how seriously about improvements is being considered.

The Ver.di collective bargaining commission recommends that all members accept this magnificent proposal! A general meeting will make the decision by the end of October, and all eyes are aimed at the result of this coordination. Is the big change in public banking at the door?
