In a glamorous act of appreciation, Gabriele Regina Overwiening was awarded the renowned Federal Cross of Merit! This extraordinary award honors her remarkable commitment in volunteering, which shone for many years and had an effect in many places. The official name of the prize, "Cross of Merit on the ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany", was presented to her by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. This was preceded by the proposal of the NRW Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst-a sign of the highest recognition!
The ceremonial handover took place at the weekend in the charming city of Horstmar, where district administrator Dr. Martin Sommer, as an laudator, impressively focused on the work of Overwiening for drug safety and medication management. His words testified to the respect that she enjoys as mere commodity for her fight against the trivialization of medicinal products - a mission that is second to none!
a pioneer in volunteering
Since 2021, Gabriele Regina Overwiening has been writing history as the first woman in the role of the volunteer president of the ABDA - Federal Association of German Pharmacist Associations. But she had already left traces in the pharmacist landscape: since 1997 she has been an active member of the Westphalian-Lippisches Pharmacist Parliament. However, her inspiring journey began in 2009 when she was the first woman to be President of the Chamber of Pharmacists Westphalia-Lippe (AkwL). In addition, she has been heading the Westfalen-Lippe Apotheker Foundation since the same year and initiated the important aid project "A Dose Future" in cooperation with Kinderothilfe e. V. - A ray of hope for sick children in the slums of Kalkutta!
The impressive commitment of the 62-year-old pharmacist not only stands out by her numerous offices, but also with her many years of support from the REK Foundation, which she has accompanied as a donor and now also deputy chairman for 19 years. Your heart beats for the community!
