Five years of State Antidis Criminration Act: A milestone for Berlin!

Berlin, Deutschland - Today, on June 19, 2025, the State Antid Icrimination Act (LADG) will be five years old in Berlin. The law that came into force on June 21, 2020 offers Berliners protection against discrimination against authorities. Berlin is the only federal state in Germany that has implemented such a law. Senator Cansel Kiziltepe emphasizes the importance of the LADG because it strengthens both the protection against discrimination and trust in public administration.

However, there are challenges that the law comes across. Above all, lack of knowledge about discrimination and the provisions of the LADG can often be found. In addition, a resistance to the disclosure of mistakes and learning from these experiences is evident in the Berlin administration. Despite these hurdles, the LADG promotes the administration -critical modernization of the administration by establishing guiding principles such as the appreciation of diversity and preventing discrimination. It creates a legal basis for changes in the direction of a discriminatory administration.

The ombudsman and its successes

The LADG ombudsman, which advises and settles in up to 400 cases annually, is a central component of the law. Dr. Doris Liebscher, the head of the ombudsman, reported on cases that concerned racist, origin -related discrimination as well as discrimination against disabilities and chronic illnesses. In addition, complaints are often submitted by citizens against citizens' offices, schools, universities, the police and Berlin transport companies.

The LADG also includes a legally enforceable claim for compensation and a lawsuit for anti -discrimination associations. These measures should make collective experiences of discrimination visible and initiate public discussions. The successes of the ombudsman are compensation payments and changes of discriminatory notices. The support for the citizens and the administration is always professionally and legally secure.

The appointment booking and contact with the ombudsman

In addition to the initiatives of the law, electronic appointment booking for the authorities is a useful development. These services are free of charge and enable citizens to book online appointments for non-urgent concerns in the citizens' office. In the event of urgent concerns, such as the past documents, you can go to the citizens' office without an appointment. Arrangements are processed in all citizens' offices in Berlin, also outside the residential area.

For advice at the LADG-ombudsstelle, citizens can visit the website [www.berlin.de/sen/lads/recht/ombudsstelle/. The ombudsman can also be reached by phone at 030 9013-3456.

The support of organizations such as VdK, SOVD and the State Association of self -help Berlin e.V. has led to the creation of information materials that explain the new rights of those affected. These brochures are crucial to expand the knowledge of the collection of claims and experience with discrimination and thus to strengthen legal protection.
