Reinickendorf tax office: an architectural monument under protection!
Eichenborndamm 208, 13437 Berlin, Deutschland - The State Monument Office Berlin has provided the tax office Reinickendorf listed. The building, designed by the influential architect Rainer G. Rümmler, is located on Eichenborndamm 208 in Berlin-Wittenau. The construction was built between 1971 and 1976 and is part of a comprehensive plan for an administrative center in Reinickendorf from the 1960s.
Rümmler, the then head of the design department at the Senate Department for Building and Housing, is known for its extraordinary designs, not only in the area of urban administrative buildings, but also in the subway architecture. The tax office captivates with its colorful design and a striking ceramic relief at the stair tower, which was created by artist Susanne Riée. Dr. Christoph Rauhut, the state conservator, highlights the architectural features and the design of the 1970s.
Rümmler's influence on the Berlin architecture
Rainer G. Rümmler was a key architect in Berlin, which began his career in the 1950s and shaped the design of new subway stations from the 1960s. His subway stations, such as the U-Bahnhof Paulsternstraße or the underground station Rathaus Steglitz, are characterized by conspicuous designs and artistic elements. He represented a departure from the simple design of his predecessor Alfred Grenander and finally reached the position of the senate's leading building director.
Overall, Rümmler designed 58 subway stations in Berlin, with his work characterized by a strong color and design language. His designs are often shaped by monument protection, which underlines the importance of its architecture in city history. The Berlin subway is known for its diversity, whereby each of the 173 subway stations has an individual design, which is partly based on Rümmler's principles of a dialogue with passengers and a deep artistic design.
monument protection for a modern heir
Christian Gaebler, Senator for Urban Development, emphasizes the importance of monument protection for younger buildings. The tax office Reinickendorf is now under the care of the BIM Berliner Immobilienmanagement GmbH , which is responsible for the care of listed buildings. Dr. Matthias Hardinghaus, Managing Director of the BIM, emphasizes how important it is to add newer architectures to the list of monuments in order to preserve a diverse picture of Berlin's architectural history.
The recognition of the Reinickendorf tax office as a monument shows that the architecture of the 1970s also has a valuable place in Berlin's history. It remains to be hoped that the legacy of outstanding architectural achievements will be protected by such decisions, while the public discourse on the renewal and maintenance of historical buildings will be promoted at the same time.
