Bicycle tour at the Müggelsee: Experience history and discover resistance!

Friedrichshagen, Deutschland - On August 23, 2025, a guided bike tour will take place around the southern part of the Müggelsee, organized by the VVN BDA Köpenick, the Center for Democracy and the Documentation Center Nazi Work. The event begins at 1 p.m. at the Friedrichshagen market square or alternatively at 2 p.m. on the Spreetunnel page Köpenick Süd. The aim of the tour is to convey information about Köpenick in the Nazi era, in particular on the stories of workers: inside, resistant, politically oppositional and forced laborers: inside that lived and worked during the Second World War in the region.

The approximately 15 kilometer route mainly runs on flat terrain, whereupon the organizers respond. A Spreetunneldelle- crossing is planned, in which participants will get help when wearing stairs. Small breaks are planned during the bike tour, and the participants are asked to bring their own meals and enough water, sun and mosquito protection. The event is part of the series "From history to the present-places of historical and political educational work in Treptow-Köpenick".

thematic focus and stations

The tour includes several historical stations, including the original location of the Kuhlen Wampe, Berliner Bürgerbräu AG and the former passage camp "Berlin Ost" in Wilhelmshagen. An additional support will be at the former concentration camp in Müggelheim, where there were particularly cruel conditions that are in the context of National Socialist forced labor.

As the Federal Center for Political Education explains, forced labor during the Second World War became the important pillar of German war economy. From 1940, men and women from attacked countries, such as the Czech Republic and Poland, became compulsory. In 1944, six million civilian forced laborers worked in the German Empire, especially women from Poland and the Soviet Union, who suffered from particularly inhumane conditions. These partial aspects of the Nazi compulsory work are also discussed in the bike tour and illustrate the historical responsibility of society.

collaborations and conditions of participation

The bike tour is free of charge, but not barrier -free. Participants who belong to right -wing extremists or organizations or have made inhuman statements in the past are denied access. The event has cooperations with various local partners, including the Interaxion Will-Course Bureau for Migrat: Inside, the Museums Treptow-Köpenick and the district office Treptow-Köpenick in the field of political education.

In order to take part in the event, no advance registration is required. The organizers are looking forward to numerous appearances to work together and learn from the past.
