Standstill in cycle path construction

Although bicycle traffic is to be promoted in Berlin, the past few years in Spandau have shown little progress in the expansion of the bike paths. In the past five years, according to adfc.de Numehr, many measures have been taken. In 2020, for example, 0 meters were added to new cycle paths, while in 2021 only 1.1 kilometers were newly created and 100 meters renovated. In 2022 a further 100 meters of construction were completed on the Falkenseer Chaussee, 2023 followed 800 meters of unprotected wheel strips.

Despite the provision of funding of several million euros - 2.03 million in 2021 and 2.16 million in 2022 - only a small part of these funds were actually used. In 2023, 1.92 million euros were made available, with only 541,446 euros being called up. District City Councilor Thorsten Schatz (CDU), responsible for building, planning and environment, emphasizes the importance of the bike path expansion, but has explained that no motor lanes should be omitted.

outlook on the mobility council

The situation for cyclists in Spandau remains tense. The last session of the driver took place on January 15, 2020, since then there have been no further meetings that were planned quarterly. The bicycles are important advisory bodies for cycling, in which ADFC district groups also take part. For the next spring, the meeting of a new mobility council that could set new impulses is planned.

The annual progress report on cycling promotion in Berlin documents developments and challenges, including accident statistics in cycling. These reports are created by the Senate Transport Administration and the Infrastructure Society Infravelo and are open to the public. However, the problems in the bike path construction and the traffic situation in Spandau remain unresolved about the safety of cyclists, such as berlin.de
