hall in a state of emergency! On October 9, 2019, on a day that goes deep into history, a barbaric anti -Semitic attack shook the synagogue and tore the lives of many people out of joint. While the Jewish community celebrated Jom Kippur, the highest holiday, a young man broke through the silence of this calm on Wednesday with his terrible deeds!

at 12:01 p.m., when the community prayed devoutly, scary hugs broke through the prayer night! Panic breaks out! The people in the synagogue are desperately barricaded. Christina Feist, one of the people present, describes shaken: "It was not clear to us where this perpetrator is, how many are. We were blind to this surveillance screen." A moment of horror that will never end for many!

What drove this man who came from a small village in Saxony-Anhalt? Driven by anti -Semitism and racism, he wanted to kill Jewish people hideiously - inspired by a failed massacre in New Zealand. But the massive door of the synagogue withstands its shots!

But the horror is not over yet! He hits Jana L. on the street and kills her cold -blooded. In a nearby snack bar - Kiez Doner - the terror will find other victims! "You can't get out of it anymore. It felt like a panic attack," remembers eyewitness Conrad Rössler in view of the horror that was going on before his eyes. The loss of Kevin S., a 20-year-old painter assistant who leaves his life in the Kiez Doner, is tragic. A total of two people had to live their lives and two more were serious injuries.

Mourning and pain will also be alive on October 9, when several commemorative events take place in the presence of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The entire reporting and the ceremony, which begins at 5:00 p.m. in the Ulrichskirche, will be streamed live on MDR.de and can be heard on the radio. For the survivors and the survivors, these are important moments when the memories always remain active!
