Energie Cottbus: 126,886 euros for promoting young talent from the DFB!

On July 11, 2025, it was announced that FC Energie Cottbus will receive 126,886 euros from the DFB youth funding for the past season in the 3rd division. These funds are part of an initiative that was introduced in 2018 to reward and strengthen the promotion of talent in the third football league. The amount of the payment to the clubs is based on the operating times of U21 players with German citizenship and aims to promote the development of young talents.

Last season Janis Juckel and Lucas Copado stood out as the outstanding U21 player of FC Energie Cottbus. The DFB was announced on Friday during the broadcast in the RBB24 Inforadio. This is part of the greater efforts of the DFB to sustainably improve the training landscape in German football.

Who benefits the most?

The SpVgg Unterhaching was the largest recipient with 302,697 euros to combine the highest amount from the funding pot. The other Bavarian clubs TSV 1860 Munich and FC Ingolstadt also make it into the top group of funding recipients with 255,768 euros or 244,889 euros. This benefits a total of 14 of the 17 beneficiaries from payments in the six -digit range. The regulations stipulate that the youth funding stew was reduced to 2.36 million euros for the 2024/2025 season, but is increased to 3 million euros due to a positive economic development.

Important aspects of talent promotion

The DFB took numerous measures to support talent development. One of the most important strategies is the DFB talent promotion program (TFP), which acts as the first systematic level for football talents in Germany. The aim of this program is to identify every talent and to promote individually. There are currently 339 bases all over Germany, where around 14,000 talented players are spotted.

The young talent program offers high -quality training once a week, which forms a bridge between the club youth work and the performance centers. These individual support measures are crucial to expand the pool of technically experienced and creative players. The support of the U-national teams shows the positive impact of this program, since 21 players of the 3rd division were active for the DFB national teams last season.

Nick Woltemade, a former player of the 3rd league, also emphasizes the outstanding role that this league plays for the development of young talent. The combination of individual support and a well -structured young system is essential to continue to train competitive players for German football in the future.
