Uniform pension adjustment: progress for East and West

Uniform pension adjustment: progress for East and West

A historical milestone for pension insurance in Germany! On the occasion of the day of German unity on October 3: For the first time after decades, the separation from the east and west blooms a uniform pension system! More than forty years ago, the division of Germany was created different ways in old -age insurance. But reunification has now set the course for a fairer future!

No more inequality! On July 1, a uniform pension increase of rich 4.57 percent was carried out in both the new and in the old federal states. "An important sign for our country," announces Dr. Stephan Fasshauer, director of the German Pension Insurance Bund in Berlin. This measure strengthens trust in the statutory pension and even goes beyond the current inflation! A real solidarity step that makes the hearts of the pensioners beat faster!

The challenges of pension reform

reunification presented the pension system with major challenges. The path was rocky! With the State Treaty of July 1, 1990, the foundation for a uniform pension system was laid. The GDR had to implement a new system according to West German model, and the pension transfer law set the legal without. Since then

But the journey to complete alignment was long and shaped by the different economic conditions in the old and new federal states. The end of the high rating of East German wages and salaries in the pension calculation will now be heralded the final adjustment. Over 30 years after reunification, Germany is finally entering a new pension era!

The levy procedure - a system with a future

The levy procedure, introduced in 1957, is the heart of our pension system. It makes it possible to use current posts directly for ongoing pension payments. Fasshauer aptly describes it: "The levy procedure made it possible to take over the payment of almost four million additional pensions from one day to the other." A proof of the flexibility and strength of this system!

In the future, the pension system based on this "generation contract" will remain adaptable. Thanks to the levy procedure, pension insurance will be a stability anchor for all Germans even in challenging times! A good feeling for the generations that will come!

Berlin cheered: The day of German unity not only brings with it symbolic importance, but also tangible improvements for millions of pensioners! A reason to celebrate!
