E-commerce in Berlin: stable upswing and growing marketplace trend

Online trade shows its best side in the third quarter! Despite the challenge with the consumer climate, growth has stabilized and sends positive signals to all dealers. With a turnover of 17,312 million euros, a moderate plus of 1.5 percent was achieved compared to the same period last year. A real sign of success that consumers are ready to shop online again!

Martin Groß-Albenhausen, the deputy general manager of the BEVH, emphasizes: "The growth is small, but it takes up our upward trend-we have finally reached the point where sales will no longer fall!" A ray of hope in uncertain times that awakens hope for the pre -Christmas period.

growth engine clothing and daily need

The "Clothing" segment, which catapults the sales by 2.7 percent, must be particularly emphasized. But the cluster "daily need" steals the show with an incredible increase of 3.7 percent! Products for our beloved pets were particularly in demand, here there was an impressive increase of 9.9 percent. Food also enjoyed greater popularity while the drugstore stagnates. In the "Establishment" area, an increase of 2.0 percent for home textiles and household appliances could be recorded. However, the “entertainment” segment was negative and concluded with a slight decline of 0.8 percent. However, surprisingly good cut off the drug segment, which shone with growth from 11.0 percent to 432 million euros.

The digital booking of services in the summer months was also not neglected! Here there was an increase of 5.9 percent to a total of 3,351 million euros. That speaks for a return of the desire to travel among the Germans!

marketplaces as sales guarantees

The Germans are increasingly digging deeper into the pocket in online marketplaces. With a leap in sales growth of 7.2 percent in the third quarter, you can clearly take the lead! In this segment, an incredible 9.25 billion euros are now being implemented-a total of 53.4 percent of e-commerce sales make up a total of 53.4 percent. In contrast, pure online retailers and online shops from inpatient dealers suffered bitter losses-sales fell by 5.3 percent and 6.1 percent. Almost a third of the purchases are carried out directly from manufacturers, here there was even a remarkable plus of 6.6 percent.

"On the one hand, the second-hand platforms that now make up almost a tenth of all orders are exciting. In addition, Asian providers have now taken over the management position in many categories," explains Groß-Albenhausen. Before Christmas, online purchases via Asian platforms already recorded a total volume of more than 2.1 billion euros!

The online trade shows that it is far from ending. The Christmas business can come - and it promises to become a highlight of the year!
