The search for the missing Mexican Maria Fernanda Sanchez: Freundeskreis and community mobilize
Title: Mexican Maria Fernanda Sanchez missing in Berlin - Freundeskreis und Family desperately looking for
subtitle: great support from the Latin American community, but fundamentally little support from outside
The 24-year-old Mexican Maria Fernanda Sanchez has been missing in Berlin since July 22nd. She had left her apartment in Berlin-Adlershof that day and has not returned since then. Neither her family nor her friends have had contact with her since then. In addition to the police, Maria's circle of friends and fellow students also take part in the search.
Maria is a fellow student of Antonia Angel, 26, in the master program for New Media Design at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences. Angel describes the friendship of the two as intense, even though it is not yet old. Due to their common situation, they became a kind of election family as international students who live separately from their families. On Friday evening, Maria and Antonia celebrated with others from their circle of friends in the Club Lido in Wrangelkiez. Everything seemed to be okay when the group wanted to meet again the next day, Maria had to cancel.
The police say that Maria may be in a psychological exception, but her friends have not noticed any signs. Antonia Angel describes Maria as exceptionally artistically gifted. She is a gifted singer, yoga lover and wanted to show her work from her studies the following Friday in an exhibition. The exhibition had to be canceled. Antonia asks the population, especially near parks, forests and natural areas, to look for her friend. Maria's tattoos, three flower emblems on the left biceps, right upper arm and right wrist could be helpful in identification.
Maria's family has now arrived in Berlin and works closely with the police. In the beginning, however, it was difficult for the friends to communicate with the authorities because they were not family members and possibly not taken seriously due to their young age and lack of knowledge of German.
Antonia Angel is also upset about the BVG, since BVG employees are said to have decreased the missing persons printed by Maria's friends in the subway and S-stations. The BVG itself took no further measures to draw attention to Maria's disappearance. The BVG announces that it is fundamentally prohibited to attach posters in the wards without consultation and approval.
Despite the support from the Latin American community and women's collectives, restaurants and citizens' associations, the support from outside the community is rather low. Maria Fernanda Sanchez is still missing, and her friends are doing everything she can forgotten her face and history. Information is accepted by the police.
Finally, Antonia Angel addresses emotional words to her friend Maria: "We love you so much, our love for you is endless. And we don't give up until we find you."
Information on the missing Maria is accepted by the missing person's venue office of the State Criminal Police Office at Keithstrasse 30 in 10787 Berlin-Tiergarten on the telephone number (030) 4664-912444 or by email to lka124-wei.berlin.de.
