Memory of the pogrom night: silence in Grunewald on November 8th
A strong sign against forgetting will be set this year! On Friday, November 8, 2024 , pupils and politicians gather for a moving silent march, which is reminiscent of the dark time of the pogrom night of November 9, 1938. Together with the State Police Academy Berlin and the Walther Rathenau-Gymnasium, the Gottfried-Keller-Gymnasium will carry out this significant commemoration. The funeral march begins at 4.30 p.m. on the memorial stone for the murdered Foreign Minister Walther Rathenau, directly on the corner of Erdener Straße and Königsallee.
Here the atmosphere of silence and thoughtfulness will be worn, while the participants pay their respect for the victims of the Nazi era. But that's not all: on track 17 of the Grunewald train station, the tragic place where numerous Jewish citizens were sent to death on the inside, a moving rally takes place from 5 p.m. .
prominent participation for a strong sign
Among those present are also prominent personalities: District Mayor Kirstin Bauch will take part in the memorial event together with the district councilors Detlef Wagner and Arne Herz. Their presence underlines the importance of this event and the demand for a clear commitment to anti -Semitism and any form of discrimination.
All interested parties are cordially invited to take part in this important memorial event. The special thing: Everyone is encouraged to bring a candle with them to turn them off at the memorial at the end of the march. The dark story becomes a light of memory and memory, which should not go out in the future.
A day that should also serve as a reminder for the coming generations! The commemoration combines the past, present and future in a powerful act of solidarity and respect.
