British military columns drive through Germany: Exercise Steadfast Defender 24 ended
In the coming week, several British military columns will be on German roads. A larger military association of the British Army will drive through Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony in particular on June 10 and 11. The journey completes the British proportion of the Steadfast Defender 24 exercise. Departures of the convoy are Pfreimd in Bavaria and Hohenfels in Baden-Württemberg. The destination is, after a stopover in Sennelager in North Rhine-Westphalia, Emden in Lower Saxony.
The more than 200 cycling vehicles are driven by British soldiers. The entire convoy is divided into several groups that are moving time. The route of over 700 kilometers mainly leads through federal highways and federal highways. Information on the exact driving route cannot be given in advance for reasons of military security.
Due to the stronger military traffic on the main connection streets between Hohenfels in Baden-Württemberg or Pfreimd in Bavaria and Emden in Lower Saxony, road users are asked for increased attention. As big as possible to the vehicle groups should be observed. In addition, for safety reasons, the individual vehicles of the up to two kilometers long, relatively slow marching columns should not be driven.
The NATO exercise Steadfast Defender 24 is NATO's largest military exercise since the Cold War. The exercise consists of two parts. Part one aimed at the so -called transatlantic reinforcement, i.e. the strategic laying of forces from North America via the Atlantic to Europe. In the second phase, the focus was on multi-domain exercises all over Europe, the demonstration of NATO's skills and the individual Member States. In this phase, the fast, cross -border posting of troops and equipment within the alliance area was also tested. The German share of the NATO exercise Steadfast Defender 24 was the Quadriga 24th series.
The Federal Republic of Germany was the focus of the Quadriga 24 exercise. She assumes leadership responsibility, provides armed forces and serves as a large logistical hub for the necessary troop marches of national and international forces. So Germany demonstrates its performance and reliability as a NATO partner. In Berlin, the arrival of the British military convoy should cause various reactions. In view of the historical importance of Berlin in relation to the Cold War and the division of Germany, the sighting of these military columns could pay special attention. During the Cold Years of War, the Federal Republic of Germany was a central scene of military presence from NATO and the Soviet Union. Berlin, as a former divided city, was a symbol of the East-West conflict and housed both military institutions and political armed forces.
Today's NATO exercise Steadfast Defender 24 underlines the persistent importance of Germany as a strategic partner for NATO and its role in securing peace and defense in Europe. The exercise is intended to demonstrate NATO's skills for the quick reaction and shift of troops.
In order to ensure the smooth running of the military columns and minimizing possible traffic disorders, road users are asked to comply with larger distances to the vehicle groups and not to drive between the columns vehicles. This is of particular importance, since the columns can affect the flow of traffic due to their length and speed.
It remains to be seen how the population will react to the viewing of the British military convoy. This may also lead to discussions about security policy and NATO membership in Germany.
