Brandenburg's Interior Minister Michael Stübgen (CDU) raises the alarm! After the dramatic arrest of a Libyan in Bernau near Berlin, he loudly demands that the power of the German security authorities to strengthen the power. The background? "The legal options of our news services are simply not sufficient!" Said the minister in an interview with the RBB. Stübgen underlines that Germany urgently has to catch up in order not to fall behind in the global fight against terror: "Face recognition has long been standard in other western countries. Why can't we do that too?" His urgent appeal: The data retention must finally be introduced in order not to be dependent on the warnings of foreign services.

The arrested Libyer, who is in custody due to suspicion of terrorism, is a hideous part of this story. According to Stübgen, he could have been reported long ago, but the asylum application was rejected in September last year. The minister is concerned: "He should have left, but just stayed here!" The chaos in the authorities are also alarming. The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees informed the immigration office only this July about the case - far too late!
"We currently can not deport anyone to Libya, because there are no flights to a civil war country," explains Stübgen. But there are bright spots! He could have been a candidate for it, but now it's too late!"
Stübgen has had enough of lethargy and asks the federal government to act now! "The security pact must be tightened - immediately!" Otherwise, according to the minister, Germany remains dependent on the tedious cooperation with foreign secret services, which is not sufficient to protect our citizens.
