This is a worrying sign, as the Secretary General of the SPD, Kurt Fischer, found. In the two electoral groups, Fischer himself did not get the necessary majority, which brings the Brandenburg SPD into a precarious position. The new party board comprises a total of 34 members, with North Rhine-Westphalia with ten representatives and Lower Saxony. This concentration on a few federal states raises questions about regional representation. Fischer said that the lack of presence from Hamburg and Brandenburg is a bad signal.Despite this challenge, Brandenburg's SPD state chairman Dietmar Woidke remains active in an advisory role. He can participate in the sessions of the party executive and presidium, since prime ministers are invited as advisory members. A hope for the Brandenburg delegation was the election of Saxon Minister of Social Affairs Petra Köpping as the new deputy party leader. She received an impressive 91.8 percent of the vote. Bärbel Bas, the new party leader, was elected with 95 percent of the delegate votes and follows Saskia Esken. Lars Klingbeil, who takes the position of Secretary General, received 65 percent approval.
