Yesterday afternoon a shocking traffic accident occurred in Niederschönhausen in which an eleven-year-old girl was seriously injured. At around 2 p.m., a 65-year-old driver was driving on Dietzgenstrasse and overtook a tram at the BVG stop Heinrich-Böll-Strasse. He hit the girl who had just gotten out of the stationary car to get onto the sidewalk.
The consequences were dramatic: the young student suffered a traumatic brain injury and painful abrasions on her face and knee. Emergency services were immediately alerted and took her to a hospital for inpatient treatment. A breath alcohol test of the driver showed a level of around 0.1 per mille. The police have taken over the investigation to clarify the exact circumstances of the incident.
